Group goals/key initiatives: To establish a City of Atlanta park on approximately 8 acres of land currently within the Georgia DOT right-of-way for GA 400. Our neighborhood (North Buckhead) is 2.5 miles long and up to 1.25 miles wide (larger than some NPUs) and is unique in the city since it is bisected by an expressway (GA 400) and is also bisected by one of the busiest roads in the city, the 8+ lane Buckhead Loop (Lenox Road). North Buckhead is in City Council District 7, which, with 2.14 acres of parks per thousand residents, is the least “parked” council district in the City of Atlanta. The Mountain Way Common will be a key destination for the GA 400 Trail.
Success stories to date:
Many neighbors have volunteered in our eight semi-annual clean-ups events on Mountain Way. We have had as many as 150 volunteers give up their Saturday mornings to clear trash and undergrowth.
Upcoming events: Mountain Way Park Clean-Up and Conservation Days are currentlt scheduled for August 25, 2012 and October 13, 2012. The initial fundraiser for Mountain Way Park will be a wine tasting event to be held on September 15th and will be called the “Mountain Way Soiree”. More details will be published in the coming weeks.
