South Bend Park Community Garden
Planting seeds for community renewal
This garden is a part of a resident-driven effort to renew Lakewood Heights to a vibrant and thriving community. South Bend Park has been a center for this renewal with the addition of a dog park, new trails, and the community garden. The garden was constructed to provide skill-building activities for children by partnering with the Joseph B. Whitehead Boys and Girls Club. By creating a place for neighbors to bond over sustainable urban agriculture, the garden is contributing to the sustainable renewal of the Lakewood Heights Community. The gardeners are looking forward to using their new irrigation system, in which captured rainwater is dispersed to the garden beds by the use of a bicycle-powered pump.
