Peachtree Hills Park Community Garden
Sun and soil bring neighbors together
This garden is in the Peachtree Hills neighborhood, which was founded in 1910. The trees are magnificent, but the hundred-year-old landscaping leaves most homeowners' yards in shade. The park is also adjacent to several condominium and apartment complexes where land for gardening is in short supply. A few neighbors founded the garden out of their need for a sunny spot of land to grow fresh vegetables. Once the garden was established, it grew in one year from six to 28 year-round gardeners. The gardeners give back to the community by making regular donations to local food pantries during their harvest.
