Kirkwood Urban Forest Community Garden
Embracing the landscape as an urban retreat
The garden in Kirkwood Urban Forest is a spot of wildness in the city. This garden stands out from other community gardens because the individual raised beds are just a small part of the landscape. The garden features apple, pear, peach, pawpaw, and persimmon trees as well as blueberry and strawberry patches. There is also a section for perennial vegetables like asparagus and artichoke. Gardeners have faced runoff challenges by building a rain garden filled with native flowers and vegetation that thrives in standing water. The gardeners are excited about plans for a new pavilion to be installed near the garden.
