Gilliam Park Community Garden

Gardeners teach each other best practices

Gilliam Park Community Garden

The Gilliam Park Community Garden creates a sense of community in Kirkwood while providing a sunny space for gardening in a neighborhood with many shady yards. This garden’s strength is that experienced gardeners help beginners get started and maintain healthy plants. The garden features a communal strawberry patch and a plot where the yield is donated to a local church.

Gilliam Park is proud of their new shelter that provides shade over picnic tables as well as housing a rainwater catchment system. The garden is along a route that many children walk on their way home from school, and the picnic tables under the rainwater catchment shelter are a popular after-school hangout. The gardeners get together regularly for work days to improve their space, and these gatherings are also an opportunity to share the bounty of the garden and enjoy the community it fosters.
